1. Project Overview

Concinnitas Farm is a small, sustainable, single-farm fermentation project, in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA of the Willamette Valley where we grow fruit, grains and other crops for the production of wine, cider and beer. Each of our fermented beverages is made with ingredients grown exclusively on our farm.

Every detail of our farm - the selection of the site, the grape varieties and clones, the row orientation, the training methods and more - was meticulously planned from the outset with one goal in mind: to produce age-worthy wines and ciders that are the perfect expression of this beautiful place.

Not long after relocating from the halls of government in Washington, DC, to Seattle, we made our first visit to the Willamette Valley and fell in love with the area – its natural beauty, its winemaking community, the spectacular wines this community produces every vintage, and, perhaps most important to us, the opportunity to continue to build on that success.

After a methodical search, we purchased a property in 2016 that would become Concinnitas Farm. The only signs of agricultural activity were remnants of a long-distant past, when the entire area was bustling with commercial orchards. Now, there was little more than a smattering of apple, pear and plum trees, long neglected and growing among the oak and fir trees, some of which we have been slowly trying to resuscitate.

It was exactly what we were looking for – a blank canvas where we could carefully design a fermentation-focused farm that is ideally suited to this particular piece of land – from its microclimate to its Bellpine soils to its Roman amphitheater-like shape. In the same spirit of innovation and experimentation exhibited by the grape growers and wine producers who came to the Willamette Valley decades ago, our 34-acre, organically-certified farm is home to 13 different grape varieties, 15 varieties of cider apples from Northern Spain, seven varieties of hops, an experimental plot for growing grains and several other fruit trees we will use for our own consumption as well as a small number of exclusive Concinnitas Farm events.
