5. Hops & Grains

Some more fertile parts of the farm - land that is not particularly well suited to growing wine grapes or cider apples - have been utilized for experimentation with different varieties of grains and the production of noble hop varieties that will eventually be used to produce single-farm beer.
We currently grow Hallertauer, Spalt Select, Serebrianka, Fuggle, Tettnanger, Kent Golding and Saaz hops.
We are also preparing a portion of our farm to grow barley that will support our beer production. Because we are committed to organic practices, we are first concentrating on the use of cover crops to outcompete and eliminate the thistle that currently occupies the space and prevents us from growing barley today. With any luck, we will plant our first barley soon.
